反冲蜡烛形态既可以是看涨，也可以是看跌，但不一定是确认形态。这一形态和分手形态相似。然而这些形态和反冲形态之间的区别是前者开盘价持平，而后者开盘价有跳空。
看涨反冲形态是一根光头光脚阴烛(一端没有影线的长阴烛)之后跟着一根光头光脚阳烛(一端没有影线的长阳烛)。
看跌反冲形态是一根光头光脚阳烛后跟着一更光头光脚阴烛。
一些日本分析师称无论趋势如何，价格总是向着长蜡烛移动。同时，和其他日本蜡烛形态不同，趋势的方向在这一形态中并不重要。
1. 光头光脚阴/阳烛后跟这一根颜色相反的光头光脚烛。
2. 两天之间有跳空。
市场正在追随某个趋势，但第二天出现了价格缺口。当天的价格没有返回前一天的交易范围，随后收盘时又出现了另一个缺口。
反冲形态没有变化。交易日之间没有缺口时，形成分手或持续蜡烛形态。
看涨形态转换为一根代表看涨的长阳烛。
看跌形态转换为一根代表看跌的长阴烛。
相似的形态是分手形态。不同在于反冲形态有跳空，是一个持续形态。
